Brandenburg completed demolition and environmental remediation of the former JFK Vocational School, including the main structure and storage buildings, located along the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. Removal of the 750,000 square foot, eight-story concrete structure was part of a unique public and private combined redevelopment project. Brandenburg began the project with asbestos removal, environmental abatement and universal/special waste handling and disposal. Well-dened procedures and continual monitoring were carefully controlled and executed to minimize vibration, noise, and dust during all phases of deconstruction. Brandenburg crews used a selective removal process and a oor-by- oor approach to bring the structure down. In the nal phase, concrete slabs and foundations were removed. Brandenburg accelerated the project schedule and nished early to support the new construction.
